About 6,000 Damascus houses, some of which could be more old than 1,000 years old, are suffering from lack of finances needed to renovate them. The houses are famous in the Middle East for their design with a pool in the centre of the yard, various plants and internal wall decoration that combine Islamic, Ottoman, Arabic and even European styles and ornaments.
