Socialist candidate to the by-election Odette Casanova checks a ballot-box in the first round of the general election in Toulon, Southern France, September 20. The by-election was called by the Constitutional Council which cancelled the previous election because of the broadcasting of a television show in favor of Odette Casanova, only a few days before the vote. Cendrine Lechevallier is candidate after her husband Jean-Marie, who won the National Front's only seat in the National assembly in the last June's general election, was stripped of his seat for exceeding the legal campaign spending limit.
