Hindu devotees drink the sacred water from the Dakshineshwar temple in the eastern Indian city of Calcutta on December 11, 2002. The Dakshineshwar temple, dedicated to Kali, the Hindu goddess of strength and destruction, wants a state-run Indian insurer to provide it with a policy to compensate pilgrims if the shrine was attacked by militants. Rebels raided Hindu temples in the western Gujarat state in September and the revolt-hit Himalayan province of Jammu and Kashmir in November. The two attacks left dozens of pilgrims dead.
