Female inmates at Bangkok\'s Central Womens\' Correctional Facility sit in their prison uniforms with their children, one of whom (R) is paying his mother a once-a-week visit behind bars August 6, 2002. A two-year-old program initiated by Thailand\'s state correctional department allows young children, most of whom live in special homes rather than with relatives, to spend one hour per week with their mothers in the prison which currently houses over 6,400 inmates. Over 80 per cent of inmates are serving sentences on drug-related charges, with a smaller percentage imprisoned on other charges including theft and murder. The baby at left was born in the prison and will remain in a special ward there until he reaches one year old, then he will also be sent to a special home.
