Sympathizers carry remains of the late Mexican rebel Lucio Cabanas in Atoya de Alvarez in the Pacific cost of Guerero on December 2, 2002, to commemorate the anniversary of his death in an army ambush 28 year ago. Cabanas' remains were recently verified through DNN testing after his family demanded an exhumation last year. Cabanas, a teacher and a radical leftist, took up arms in 1967 and funded his "Party of the Poor" with kidnappings until he was killed during the government's so called dirty war against leftist insurgents in the 1970s and 1980s.
