Augsburg, Bavaria, Germany The 11th US Airborne Division stationed in Augsburg during exercises on the formations and structures of the US Army. The units were reorganized at that time: here the new "pentomic" division, consisting of five combat groups (outer pentagon), to which five special battalions (inner pentagon) are assigned (1500 men in total). The aim of the restructuring was to adapt to the new challenges of a possible nuclear war by means of more mobility and better equipment (firepower) of the individual divisions.
