On the back of this photograph John James Frowde writes, "Noble's Court all gone but the inner house - deep shade but bright sunshine on Quay. In rear the two old pubs with reputed tunnel in that on E. Nothing seen of such when building taken down - if Mr Neely knew the exact house ['35]. Still have added assertions that it/they (2) were there - see photo - Durie's. These two houses, old people in the vicinity - have told me were known as Belshaws + Elliotts. But in the 1880 Directory Belshaw & Elliot both lived with their families in the same house in Queen's Place, off the Parade (E), so that these people were comparatively nearby, occupying these houses."
