On the back of this photograph John James Frowde writes, "No 8 Seneschal Lane and no 11 seen from the Quayside at entry to what was Durie Lane and, in later years, up to demolition, Bond Lane. I have been familiar with all these huge houses since my early days in business, but only being able to see them in profile in these narrow winding lanes. I can only now sense the colossal size of many of these mansions (for such they were), and especially their vast areas of cellarage, which were doubtless made full use of." Additional note: "Never finish a sentence with a preposition - 'Old Saw.'"
