On 15 February 1966, a few months before the Bavona power station and the Maggia power station's Altstafel-Bedretto-Robiei feed tunnel were commissioned, a tragic accident occurred in the Robiei-Bedretto tunnel in which 17 workers, 15 of them Italian, were suffocated. Angelo Da Dalto wanted to rush to the aid of the first three men who had entered the tunnels, but had to abandon his plan due to shortness of breath despite a breathing apparatus.
