Persecution of Christians under Shapur II, AD 310-379. In the Sasanian times there was a complete mutual intolerance between Zoroastrian and Christian (Syrian), and the Emperors were perforce staunch supporters of the national religion, a debased Zorcastrianism. Some, however, like Yazdajird I (399-420) and Hormizd (579-590), were tolerant, while others, like Shapur II, and Anushirwan (Chosroes I, 531-579), were the reverse.
