British (English) School. Oil painting on canvas, Frances Maria Warren Lady Vernon (1784-1837) by Sir Thomas Lawrence PRA (Bristol 1769 – London 1830), circa 1820/30. A three-quarter-length portrait of a woman, turned slightly to the left, head slightly inclined to the right, gazing at the spectator, wearing a dark dress with gold waist-band, with crimson, ermine lined cloakdraped over her right shoulder and gathered up in her left hand, her right arm is resting on a black and ormolu decorated pedestal supported on a black and gilt neo-classical chest, in the background at the right is a brown drape. A grey/mushroom background at the left. Wife of George Charles Vernon, 4th Baron Vernon of Kinderton, and daughter of Admiral the Rt Hon. Sir John Borlase Warren. She brought the Poynton estates in Cheshire into the family (Portrait came from Stapleford Hall) Sudbury Hall, Derbyshire
