Flintlock dog-lock musket, 1704. Made by Richard Woolridge, Tower of London. This is one of the first muskets made for the new socket bayonet. The bayonet fitted around the muzzle of the weapon. It was called a ‘dog-lock’ musket because it included a ‘dog’ - a simple catch that allowed the weapon to be carried safely until it was ready to fire.
