First Field Dressing, 1912. Manufactured by Cuxon, Gerrard and Company Limited, 1912. Field dressings were carried in the kit of all British Expeditionary Force soldiers in World War One (1914-1918). Any soldier caught without their dressing was charged under military law. The example shown here contains two dressings in waterproof covers, a bandage and safety pin wrapped in small sewn casing with instructions for use on the outer cover. The dressing was stored in an internal pocket sewn under the right flap of the soldier’s tunic.
