A SCARLET MACAW HATCHLING SITS IN AN ARTIFICIAL NEST, 2003-05-31 (photo)

A Scarlet Macaw hatchling sits in an artificial nest May 31, 2003 in the Laguna del Tigre National Park, northern Guatemala. The chick is the only known hatchling to servive this year in the bird's main nesting ground of el Peru. Conservation groups working in the area are battling to save the bird amidst wildfires, poachers and an overpopulation of the bird's natural preditors.
