Alexander Kellock Brown was a Scottish artist who painted in both oils and watercolours. He specialised in painting Scottish scenes such as this landscape. Several small cottages lie huddled together at the foot of the hills. As the light of day fades, the figures of a woman and child, wrapped up against the cold, can be seen walking over the bridge towards them. Brown exhibited his work widely, including the Royal Academy in London, and the Royal Scottish Academy in Edinburgh.
