Gleadowe Marshall (widow of G.E.Wythes) by Frank Brooks (Salisbury 1854 – Hampshire 1937), signed and dated, lower left: 1905. A three-quarter-length, seated portrait overall tones of dark charcoal grey, lighter grey and palest lilac. Dark background with trees on right. She has short, light grey hair under a wide-brimmed hat, and wears a long dark gown over white high-necked lace bodice and matching collar. A pale lilac stole is draped over her right arm and around her back. She holds an open book on her lap. She wears a necklace of amethyst (?) stones with a diamond brooch pinned below.
