A British Second World War 'Make Do and Mend' propaganda poster. Two running figures, one made of kitchen utensils such as a fork, grater, spoon, colander, pans and brushes and the other composed of buttons, thread card, cotton reels and a thimble feature on either side of the text: MAKE DO AND MEND - HOUSEHOLD ADVICE CENTRE - BRING YOUR PROBLEMS HERE. The figure on the right holds a pair of scissors, ball of wool and a placard with the message MEND AND MAKE-DO TO SAVE BUYING NEW. The British government commissioned posters with the phrase ‘Make Do and Mend’ to encourage people to revive and repair worn out clothes. By Board of Trade
