Photograph taken around the time when this avenue, then called 'Rehov Ha'am' ('Street of the People') was renamed in honour of and in gratitude for the generosity of the French philanthropist Baron Edmond de Rothschild (1845-1934); in 1924 he established the Palestine Jewish Colonization Association which acquired 50,586 hectares of land and he also financed the development of an electric generating station and helped to establish a wine production industry in Israel; today Rothschild Boulevard is one of the principal and most expensive streets in Tel Aviv;
