The painting depicts the martyrdom of St. Maurice or Sant'Acacio and the ten thousand comrades on Mount Ararat; the author pays attention to landscape, expressiveness of figures faces and dynamism of their bodies; it is considered a partial replica of the painting of the Palatine Gallery and it is believed that it was executed by the hand of Bronzino, as shown by the landscape in the background with the Pitti Palace; other people think that the figure on the right pointing with his hand on his chest would be the self-portrait of Pontormo to who the work is attributed Pontormo Uffizi Gallery
