King Edward VII Coronation Medal 1902. Coronation medal from a medal group awarded to Captain John Grant Malcolmson VC (1835-1902), 3rd Regiment of Bombay Light Cavalry. John Grant Malcolmson was commissioned into the 3rd Bombay Light Cavalry on 28 August 1855. He served with them during the Persian War of 1856-57 and earned the Victoria Cross for his actions at the Battle of Khoosh-ab in 1857. He was also present at the capture of Reshire and surrender of Bushire. His India General Service Medal consequently bears the clasp for ‘Persia’. He later served during the Indian Mutiny of 1857-59, most notably at the Siege of Ratghur and the fall of Kalpi earning him the clasp for ‘Central India’ to his Mutiny Medal. He became one of Queen Victoria’s Gentleman-at-Arms in 1870 and was involved in celebrations surrounding the coronation of Edward VII on 9 August 1902 earning him the Coronation Medal.
