Title
Three scenes from the Boer War period - British military parade c.1899, Australian cavalry c.1901, departure of the West Yorkshire Regiment in 1899
Date
1899 (C19th)
Description
The first shot is of British Infantry in khaki service dress parading before Royal carriages with the saluting area marked by Household Cavalry. Possibly a parade prior to embarkation for South Africa, c.1899. The second shot is of a parade of Australian horsemen consisting of the NSW Lancers, Victorian Mounted Rifles and Queensland Mounted Infantry. The officers are wearing black arm bands indicating official mourning most likely for the death of Queen Victoria in 1901. The third segment is of the departure of the troopship the SS Roslin Castle. This could possibly be the departure of the 2nd Battalion The Prince of Wales's Own West Yorkshire Regiment on 19 October 1899.
