The soldiers depicted are probably from the 2nd Queen Victoria's Own Rajput Light Infantry. During the First World War two additional battalions of the regiment were raised, the 2nd in 1917 and the 3rd in 1918. Battalions of the regiment served in Egypt and Afghanistan as well as Mesopotamia.
