Illustration shows scenes of or inhabitants of some of the principal British colonies - Canada, South Africa, Australia and India; it is of interest to note that in France historically throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries, Great Britain was usually referred to simply as England; from a series of collecting cards showing European empires published by Liebig to promote their meat extract products; Liebig's meat extract, manufactured in Uruguay by Fray Bentos, became by the late 19th century a staple food in European homes and was extensively used in World War II;
