The scene is dominated by a building on whose upper floor the Apostles are gathered, some face backwards, others in profile; the old one in a prominent position is Peter, depicted while pronounces his speech; in the centre Holy Mary stands out, in frontal position, with Her hands joined; at the base of the building, on the street, there are three little dogs and pilgrims of various ethnicities, depicted in different attitudes: some talk with the person beside, others open their arms as a sign of amazement, some look upwards, others eavesdrop, while the character in the centre of the group, seen from behind, is going to knock at the front door Andrea di Bonaiuto Church of Santa Maria Novella
