Description
The title of the present picture seems to have a double meaning, referring both to the loving young couple and the playbill they are holding for John Tobin's popular play The Honeymoon. First performed at Drury Lane in January 1805, this was constantly re-staged throughout the nineteenth century. The couple look very like Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in the 1850s, demonstrating that then, as now, the Royal Family were models of fashion.
