The London-Leeds Mail Coach

British (English) School. Oil painting on canvas, The London-Leeds Mail Coach, British (English) School, circa 1845. On the left a soldier waits by a signpost on a country road; a country-house in the distance; the signpost by which he stands shows that the coach has come from the direction of York. There is a female figure inside the coach, and three men on top, a coachman with a whip, a man seated beside him and a third at the back blowing a horn. Queen Victoria’s cipher on the coach; costume c.1845; A dog on the road in the centre jumps up at the horses.
