Although Swiss women do not yet have the right to vote and to vote in national matters, some cantons have introduced the right for women to vote in cantonal and communal matters. The same goes for the canton of Neuchâtel. German President Max Petitpierre and his wife Antoinette Elisa Petitpierre-de Rougemont as equal citizens at the ballot box in Neuchâtel. The people of Neuchâtel had to decide on a communist holiday initiative, which wanted the granting of three weeks paid holidays to all wage earners to be anchored in law. The initiative was rejected.
