Ovidii Nasonis Metamorphoseon Libri XV cum Appositis Italico Carmine* Interpretationibus ac Notis, 5 Vols (Florence, 1824, repr. 1832); Book III; Narcissus: A beautiful young man who fell in love with his own reflection and died from the pain of being unable to be with himself. Echo: A nymph who angered Juno by helping Jove hide his infidelities. Juno punished her by making her only able to repeat the words said by others. She falls in love with Narcissus, who ignores her until she fades away to nothing but her voice.
