The Story of Women and Art
Over 60 Bridgeman images were licensed for Matchlight's BBC series, examining the story of history's greatest female artists
In this three part series, Professor Amanda Vickery explores the hidden journey of female creativity in Western art, from the cloistered worlds of Renaissance Italy and Spain, through revolutionary France, to New Mexico in the 20th century.
Bridgeman have previously worked with Matchlight, an independent television production company, as a key image supplier on their series 'Medieval Births, Marriages and Deaths' and 'She Wolves.' See all images used in 'The Story of Women and Art'
Interview: Paul McCaffery, Production Co-ordinator on 'The Story of Women and Art' talks to us about the production and working with Bridgeman:
1. What was your favourite image that you licensed from Bridgeman? For me, it was Judith Slaying Holofernes by Artemesia Gentileschi. It was used in a section about the artist in programme one of the series, where we look at a particularly dark chapter in her life. It’s a stunning image.
2. How easy was licensing images from Bridgeman? As with every time we deal with Bridgeman, simple and painless.
3. How helpful was your Account Manager? Rachel was great, as always– and helped us hugely through a long edit process on our side.
4. How would you sum up your experience working with Bridgeman in three words? The best around.
