Now representing: Richard Spare

Bridgeman Images is now representing the wonderful painter and printmaker Richard Spare, best known for his dry point etchings of birds, animals and nature

Richard Spare (b.1951) is a British painter and printmaker. After studying painting at Maidstone College of Art in the early 1970s, Richard embarked on a career that has seen him edition work for a number of leading contemporary artists including David Hockney and Jasper Johns among others. He has exhibited his own work internationally and is a regular exhibitor at the RA Summer exhibition

“I enjoy the almost sculptural quality involved in working a plate and particularly I like the rich, velvety quality of line produced by drypoint, which in combination with vibrant colour, I use for my prints.”

Today, Spare focuses on producing his own work, drawing on themes of nature. The garden he has designed at his studio in Charlton is a small haven for wildlife and has been a starting point for many of his prints.

Solo exhibitions of Spare’s work have been held in galleries throughout Japan and Australia and the UK, including Leeds City Art Gallery and Trevelyan College, University of Durham.
