Scenic summertime

Schwartz’s series of figures reclining on the grass and by the water perfectly capture the relaxing atmosphere of longer summer days. Inspired by 19th century American painters like Thomas Cowperthwait Eakins (1844-1916), his paintings refer back to a traditional lifestyle at one with nature.
Schwartz’s artistic career began at the tender age of eight with Saturday afternoon art classes in Greenwich Village. Since graduating from the prestigious Rhode Island School of Design in 1949, his oils, watercolours and sculptures have been exhibited around the world, including at the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery, the British Museum in London, and galleries in Asia.
