The Colourful Life of Glynn Boyd Harte

Glynn Boyd Harte was one of the most eclectic British artists of the 20th Century. A prolific illustrator and painter, his bold, saturated use of colour transformed mundane objects and places, making the everyday extraordinary.

New in the archive, his images are available for licensing via Bridgeman Artists' Copyright Service.

A legacy of artists

Boyd Harte was born in Lancashire, 1948. His father was a commericial artist and his grandfather owned a lithographic printing works. After graduating from the Royal College of Art he established a flourishing career as an illustrator, poster designer and painter.

Still Lifes and Cityscapes

Working in London and Paris, Boyd Harte was best known for his whimsical images of local hotspots and seasonal produce. His architectural illustrations of London shops and Paris boulangeries are instantly recognisable to those living in the area.

In Boyd Harte's 2003 Guardian obituary, Patrick O'Connor described him as: "One of the most brilliant and influential illustrators and painters to emerge in the post-pop world of London in the early 1970s."
