Collection Spotlight: Imperial War Museums

The Imperial War Museums collection is unique in its coverage of military history and conflict, especially those involving Britain and the Commonwealth from the First World War to the present day, telling the stories of people's spirit, resilience and innovation in the face of adversity.

Battle of Germany, 1944 (oil on canvas), Paul Nash (1889-1946) / Imperial War Museum, London, UK

Comprising more than 11 million photographs and works of art, our intake of IWM is growing all the time, and we have received an amazing selection of images, including paintings by well known British wartime artists, such as Paul Nash, Laura Knight, Eric Ravillious, and C. R. W. Nevinson.

Runway Perspective, 1942 (w/c on paper),
Eric Ravilious, (1903-42) / Imperial War Museum, London, UK

A Balloon Site, Coventry, 1943 (oil on canvas), Laura Knight (1877-1970) / Imperial War Museum, London, UK

We also have fantastic wartime propaganda from the collection, including these World War II recruitment posters.

Women of Britain - Come into the Factories, 1941 (photolithograph), Philip Zec (1909-1983) / Imperial War Museum, London, UK

Serve in the WAAF with the Men Who Fly, 1941 (colour litho) , Jonathan Foss (fl.1941) / Imperial War Museum, London, UK

The IWM is a wonderful resource and the collection is always growing. Please do get in touch if you have any questions.
